This week I continued the experiment, and I got to try it under completely different circumstances. Instead of my normal 8-5 office job, I spent the majority of the week stocking groceries. This change in pace gave me the perfect opportunity to continue experimenting with keeping God in mind every minute of every day.

The results from this week were quite different as well. The percentage of minutes that I focused on God ranged from 2.9% to 11.5%. I averaged 5.9% or 3.5 minutes each hour. I was pleased with all of the days, but the result from Tuesday, the day with 11.5%, excited me.

I refocused on God 55 times during my shift on Tuesday, and I really enjoyed each of those moments. I experimented with praying over the groceries I was stocking. I specifically remember praying over some coffee I was stocking. I asked God to bless whoever was drinking it and that they would have a moment of peace and joy as they drank their coffee. I also prayed over some macaroni and cheese, and as I did I imagined the families that would be enjoying a meal together. Each moment I was able to do my job while also being thankful for whoever would be purchasing the food I was stocking.

I prayed for the customers as they walked by or as they said hello. I found myself being thankful for the life I do have, and being heavy hearted for those who have obvious physical pain or limitations. I also noticed how quick I was to judge people by the way they looked and dressed. I tried to be quick to ask God for love and for His eyes when I noticed myself looking at others with judgmental eyes.

Similarly to last week, I noticed that I would refocus on God during transitions or when I was working by myself. I lost focus as I thought intently on a task or was in conversation with someone else. I look forward to learning more about being present with God as I’m present with others.

I hope that my experiment encourages you to try something similar yourself, and as always, be blessed, Noah.
