Last week reminded me of why I am calling this project an experiment!

As part of the experiment, I continued tracking the number of minutes that I thought about God in my workday. Below you will see the percentage of minutes from each day, and I feel like the following should come with a sign: “Warning: Results May Vary.”

Monday: 1.9%

Tuesday: 3.1%

Wednesday: 2.3%

Thursday: 1.5%

Friday: 0.3%

If I’m honest, I really don’t like these results. They are especially hard to process after having decent progress the previous week, but again I must remind myself that this is an experiment and not a test. If it were a test, I would have one chance to produce a certain result, but with the experiment I get to see what works and what doesn’t.

As I thought about the future of my experiment, I realized that it would be healthy to better define both the experiment and the results that I’m after. To do so, I want to start with the basic definition of an experiment.

An operation or procedure carried out under controlled conditions in order to discover an unknown effect or law, to test or establish a hypothesis, or to illustrate a known law.

The Operation / Procedure: Pray to God with the intent to deepen our friendship, lift someone else up to Him, or seek His will and wisdom in a situation.

The Controlled Conditions: The conditions are easier to observe than control for this experiment, so some of the things I’ll be observing are: when/if did I abide with God that day, what type of tasks did I need to complete, and what was I focused on while at work.

The Hypothesis: Keeping God in the forefront of my mind every minute of my workday will lead to me seeing, speaking life to, and serving more people.

The Desired Results: People putting their full trust in Jesus.

Although I’ll be reporting the number of minutes each day, the percentage of minutes are only a metric, not the end goal. The percentage of minutes should correlate to stories of people being changed and transformed by God. People’s lives are the end goal and everything else is just a way of reaching that goal.

To summarize, I want to see people’s lives changed! I believe that by paying attention to my focus, abiding with God, and building new habits I can focus on Him the majority of the time I’m at work, and if I can focus on Him more, I will see more people come to know Him.

I hope that my experiment encourages you to try something similar yourself, and as always, be blessed, Noah.
